PSE&G NJ LED Lighting Incentives: Prepare for PY6

LED Lighting

Organizations planning LED lighting upgrades in PSE&G New Jersey territory should be aware of an upcoming transition in the utility’s prescriptive incentive program. Program Year 6 (PY6) is anticipated to launch on October 1, 2026, while current increased PY5 incentive levels are being extended for qualifying projects pre-approved through December 31, 2026.

For facilities, operations, and energy leaders, that creates a year-end planning window where submission timing may directly affect the incentive rates applied to a project.

What Is Changing With PSE&G’s PY6 Program?

Once PY6 launches, project submissions and estimates will need to use the new PY6 workbook. However, the current increased PY5 incentive levels are extended for projects that receive pre-approval by December 31, 2026.

Projects that are not pre-approved by that date are expected to receive PY6 incentive rates. Based on current program guidance, those rates are likely to be lower in 2027.

That distinction makes pre-approval (not simply submission) the key year-end milestone for teams hoping to receive the grandfathered PY5 incentive rates.

Why Early Submission Matters

How can facilities teams prepare for the PSE&G PY6 transition?

One practical step is to submit complete project packages as early as possible. The program has advised that projects submitted too late in Q4 may not complete the review process in time to receive pre-approval by December 31.

Higher year-end submission volume may add further pressure to review timelines. For organizations managing LED upgrades across one or multiple facilities, waiting until late in the quarter could therefore introduce additional financial and scheduling uncertainty.

Facilities and operations teams should review projects already in development, identify those intended for 2026 pre-approval, and make sure documentation is complete before submission. Energy and sustainability leaders may also want to account for the program transition when developing project budgets and internal approval schedules.

What About PSE&G NJ Instant Discounts?

PSE&G NJ Instant Discount rates are expected to remain the same through June 30, 2027.

That creates an important distinction for organizations evaluating their lighting options: the anticipated changes to PY6 prescriptive incentive rates should not automatically be assumed to apply to the Instant Discounts offering. Project teams should consider which program pathway applies to their specific project before incorporating incentives into budgets or financial projections.

Planning for the 2026–2027 Transition

The upcoming PY6 launch does not necessarily require organizations to accelerate every planned lighting project. It does, however, make timing an important consideration for projects already being evaluated or prepared for submission.

Teams with projects targeting the current increased PY5 incentive levels should focus on complete documentation and sufficient lead time for program review before December 31, 2026. Projects moving into 2027 should be budgeted with awareness that PY6 incentive levels are expected to decrease.

As the transition progresses, facilities and energy leaders should continue monitoring PSE&G program guidance and use the applicable PY6 materials once they become available. Program terms and incentive levels may change, so current program documentation should be confirmed when making final project decisions.
